Copying and Plagiarism

Apart from being against the rules, copying the work of another means it is unlikely the student has learned about the topic or the material being covered.  Plagiarism.org explains that teachers can help prevent plagiarism by first understanding and dealing with the reasons for copying. Some of the reasons they’ve cited include:

  • time management issues
  • pressure to achieve high grades
  • poor paraphrasing skills
  • poor citation skills
  • different cultural views on intellectual property

There are many websites that offer citation formatting. This makes it easier for students to turn in work with proper attribution for other’s ideas. Listed below are a few but there are many others:
