What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing. — Aristotle
Educators understand the value of experiential learning; but finding the right kind of environment for young children to practice online skills can be difficult.
SuperClubsPLUS Australia is a protected online social learning network for children aged 6 to 12 years. Launched in 2008, SuperClubs PLUS Australia has proved a popular place for children to have fun, connect with other children and learn ICT, citizenship and social skills. Full-time moderators on the site mean that children get immediate and constant feedback to encourage and shape appropriate behaviour. At the same time children can earn cybersafety badges, build their own webpages, learn basic coding, communicate with friends and get involved in worthwhile online projects. The site is supported by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, various state Education Departments (including DEECD Vic) and the Telstra Foundation.
